"Why don't you teach an iPhone class?" + Florida
Safety Harbor is an out of the way gem!
For the longest time, people have been asking me to put together an online class about iPhone photography tips and tricks, but I just never got around to it.
Until now!
I just partnered up with my friends at KelbyOne, the premier online photo instruction website and I’m thrilled to announce that “Capturing iPhone Photos Like a Pro,” is now live and available for your viewing and learning pleasure.
The class is actually 1 of 3 for K1. I’m also teaching beginning iPhone photography (a great primer to show you all about the hidden features within the menu and modes) and how to shoot video like a pro at KelbyOne’s upcoming iPhone Photography Conference on March 27, 28 and 29, alongside industry legends like Frederick Van Johnson, Gilmar Smith, Dave Williams, Rick Sammon, Serge Ramelli, Erik Kuna, Lisa Carney and Scott Kelby.
In the new class, I’ll show you how to (in K1’s descriptive terms!) “capture great headshots, dynamic long exposures, breathtaking skies, beautiful macros, fun panos,” and much more.
KelbyOne is behind a paywall. Subscriptions to the service, which includes instruction on Lightroom, Photoshop, drone flying, better portraits—you name it, starts at $9.99 monthly, and is well worth your time. You can also buy the class outright for $29.
Please take a gander and be sure to let me know what you think.
Fabulous Florida: Safety Harbor
We filmed the Kelby class in this really cute small town near Tampa called Safety Harbor and I fell in love with it. Click the link directly above and you can see why. It was my sort of place and the antithesis of the average Florida tourist town. You’ve got an old-fashioned Main Street with flags waving in front of shops, highlighted by a huge 500 year-old tree in the center of town, wildly colorful historic homes (in greens, yellows and blues) on the side streets, and a wonderful waterfront directly across from Tampa.
One of the great highlights of the Florida visit was watching the sun rise over Tampa in Safety Harbor at 6:30 a.m. one morning.
So naturally, when we weren’t working on filming the class, I was in Safety Harbor making an episode of PhotowalksTV. You’ll see the photo highlights of the town of 17,000 people, meet the local barber Brian Fiest, who fashions himself as the town Floyd and see the wildest and most colorful art installation I’ve come across. That, and beautiful waterfront scenery! Thank you Christina Sauer for introducing me to Safety Harbor!
To do list:
—My guest on the Thursday 2 p.m. PT Photowalk Talks LIVE edition on YouTube will be Kim McCallister, the newscaster and sidekick to both Mark Thompson and Nikki Medoro on their YouTube podcasts. She’ll be the voice of the consumer, as we discuss the ten things that bother us the most about the iPhone camera. And we’ll take your questions, so be sure to tune in.
—We’re 421 away from the magic subscriber number of 10,000 on YouTube, so if you haven’t already, please hit that subscriber button and put a big smile on my face. To subscribe: https://bit.ly/3Al6RsS
